Three-year-old Acen King was tragically shot and killed in Little Rock, Arkansas by a nearby short-tempered driver.

The child and his grandmother, Kim King-Macon, were on their way to JC Penney for a shopping trip, but a driver behind them at a stop-sign impatiently honked, likely to express his dissatisfaction with the speed of the grandmother’s car. The angry driver then exited his car and shot the helpless little boy.

The grandmother did not notice the horrifying fact that the child was shot until they arrived at the store. At that point, she called the police. The child later died from the wounds in a closeby hospital.

According to BBC News, police said, “The victim was struck at least once.”

A police officer said on Twitter, “Tonight’s homicide was a road rage incident, the grandma and 3 year old victim are innocent and have no relationship w/ the suspect.”

There was an additional child in the car at the time of the shooting who was thankfully not hurt, according to New York Daily News. This other child was only a year old.

The family will be tragically experiencing the holiday season with the absence of a loved one, who was only three years old.

Little Rock’s Police Chief Kenton Buckner was disturbed by the situation. “This is probably one of the most frustrating things you will encounter in your (law enforcement) career, when it involves children, particularly kids of this age,” he said, according to USA Today.

According to Azadeh Ansari and Chuck Johnston from CNN, the shooting was nowhere near the first incident in the city. They said, “The fatal shooting marks Little Rock’s 40th homicide of the year, police said. Last year, there were 31 homicides in the city.”

USA Today said the suspect was driving an “older black Chevrolet Impala” and that $20,000 is being offered to help find the heartless murderer.
