With counselor Pam Bobinski on maternity leave, a counselor spot was left open. One of the English teachers, Rachel McBride, was selected to take over for Bobinski in the fourth quarter.

McBride, who has her Master’s degree in counseling from the University of Akron, said she’s excited to fill the job.

“I feel like it’s a new challenge, and I’m excited to try it. I definitely am missing the classroom—it being something I’ve been loving and doing for 15 years—but I’m excited for a chance to try something new.” she said.

The veteran teacher believes that she’s been preparing for the job by how she’s interacted with her own students. She said, “I feel like I do a lot of counseling in the classroom as it is, so I almost feel like I do more in there then I might have a chance to do. I know there’s a lot of paperwork involved with counseling at this end.”

Replacing McBride in the English classroom is long-term substitute Mike Wilcox. He’ll be teaching McBride’s World Literature & Composition Honors and British Literature & Composition classes.
