In an exclusive interview, The Paw Print’s Milana Babichuk sat down with Mrs. Tereza Buzdon to discuss her outdoor plans for this summer.

Milana: Hello Mrs. Buzdon!  So, I heard you will build a vegetable garden and redesign your backyard. How do you plan a vegetable garden layout?

Buzdon: I actually went on Pinterest and I looked up different layouts like if I wanted a raised bed or if I wanted two separate ones like a big one or a small one. I also talked with my mom and so we decided on a layout that would work best for my space. So I’m going from one big garden. It’s about 12′ by 12′.

Milana: That sounds great. So, what will be in your backyard?

Buzdon: The first thing I am hoping to have is a vegetable garden and then I would like to also have a deck and little patio fire, you know, so I don’t want this to be in the deck. There is a three-section in my yard, so it would be all on top of each other.

Milana: That would look awesome! Are you gonna do it all by yourself?

Buzdon: I already started a vegetable garden. I started digging the trenches and I have the walls up. It will be raised because I have a big huge tree in the back. I think the deck I am gonna have someone build ‘cuz I am not good with that and I might do the patio on myself, but I am not sure yet.

Milana: How great that you are building almost everything by yourself. What kind of vegetable do you already have?

Buzdon: I have a really small vegetable garden in a different part of the yard, and I have above four to six tomato plants and like two or three pepper plants. Maybe like eight plants together.

Milana: What kind of vegetable would be in your garden after?

Buzdon: I already ordered eight tomato plants of different kinds, six pepper plants, and my mom gives me seeds for parsley and salads. I am gonna get a lot more later.

Milana: When did you plan to redesign the backyard and build a bigger vegetable garden?

Buzdon: I started dreaming about it two years ago because we took the kids’ swingset down, so then it looked empty and yucky. I thought that I wanted a bigger garden.

Milana: Why do you want to have your own garden?

Buzdon: I like having a fresh tomato right off the vine and peppers are expensive that’s why I like peppers but other than that I kind of do like my parents. My parents came from Europe and when I was growing up they had their own vegetable garden.

Milana: My grandmother has a small garden in her house. She likes to take vegetables off the vine too. Thank you for your time and your help.

Buzdon: Your welcome!
