It’s to no one’s surprise that a lot of people treat their pets like family. Pets have saved lives like no others, and provide emotional support and stability to homes all around the world. It’s for that reason that people have been thankful to them and express it every thanksgiving holiday.
Three years ago, I also learned what it felt like to feel gratitude for a pet, just not one you would expect. Arriving nestled up in a crate, we got Perky – an Eclectus parrot – when she was just a baby. She has filled my life up with so much joy and happiness that I didn’t think it was possible
Sometimes it is better to take things slow and learn to enjoy things in life, which I believe is what Thanksgiving embodies. Some people may be quick to celebrate Christmas before Thanksgiving is over but there are many reasons why you should wait.
When it comes to getting together to celebrate, there can be big and small parties. Mrs. Preisse believes that, “Small get togethers have a more calming atmosphere and better conversations. I get really overwhelmed in big crowds with a lot of noise so I would prefer a more close-knit party.” Ms. Cioffi admits that being with family is what she loves most about Thanksgiving, for some it would be the food – mashed potatoes and turkey.
After three long years with Perky, I realized that I wanted to spend this Thanksgiving with her and my family. Going with our normal tradition of going to Indianapolis for this upcoming break, I’ve made preparations to bring her along. I want to really enjoy this year and all that I am thankful for.
