Every football season during halftime the auxiliary team performs a thoughtful routine that entertains the home and away team, one of the people who helps make decisions for the team. Making sure that routines align with the Marching Band’s, Ms. Ochocki plays a big role in how the performance turns out. Ms. Ochocki had student-taught at Mayfield in 2021 then came back as a full time teacher in May of 2022.
When asked more about the team and the preparation that goes into their performances, Ms. Ochochki states, “The team works very hard to prepare for performances. They have practices together as a team during the week in addition to the rehearsal with the entire marching band on Wednesday nights.” Ochocki goes on to explain that the team rehearses on their own to practice their choreography to a song they plan on performing Friday night. During the games the teams work well together with field placement which Ms. Ochocki oversees. She is very enthusiastic and is thrilled for the upcoming season, there were many positive changes that helped the team this past year. One of those changes was the coaching staff, Mrs. George, the new coach for the Auxiliary team, was also eager to get the season going. With the upcoming season Ms.Ochoki sees no adjustments that are necessary, in future there may be issues that arise however they would be dealt with when they appear.
As per the team they were welcoming to the new coach and the changes that were put in place. Cecilia Ortiz, who’s going into her fourth season with the auxiliary team is excited for the upcoming season. The bond she has created with her teammates and performing with them is why she goes back every year. Cecilia goes on to say “My favorite part of the performance is the kick line.” Along with the junior, sophomore Ella Hearn has been with the team for a year and she also enjoyed the strong bond that she created with her teammates. One of her favorite moments being on the team was the first dance that they had learned called Get Ready. With the 2025 season coming up both teammates express the community they have built and are excited to get the season started.
With an optimistic mindset for the team next year Ms. Ochocki is ready to take on any issues that may come up and believes that last year was a good starting point on proving the team overall. She couldn’t be more proud of the team she goes on to describe them as,“… A group of kind and responsible young women that I’m proud to call a part of the marching band.” Always striving for excellence the team always works hard at every game and event.
