It’s already May! Can you believe it? The senior class will soon be walking out of the building for the last time as high school students, ready to start their next journey in the world. I was fortunate to be able to interview one senior here at Mayfield High School and get insight into how he feels and what he plans his road to look like: Jaswant Singh.
During my interview with Jaswant, I first got insight into his time here at Mayfield and how long he has attended Mayfield. He said, “I have been attending Mayfield schools since kindergarten and have run cross country all four years of high school and two years in middle school”. When Jaswant was looking back on his time here at Mayfield, I asked him what his favorite memory he has taken in from his time at Mayfield, and he said, “Running and cross country and creating close bonds with friends I’ve met.” Through the countless after school practices, long runs, and workout days he built lasting friendships that have impacted his time in high school. While still looking back into his time in high school, I wanted to see if there was anything he would change about his school experience if he could go back in time. He told me, “I wish I had challenged myself more as an underclassman to improve my skills for a younger age.” He feels that he could have pushed himself harder, that could have helped him out big time moving forward each year in high school. For Jaswant his favorite class that he attended at Mayfield was, “AP Physics because, It was a good balance of work and easy to maintain but although the challenge it brought it was very interesting.” Jaswant gave me a great piece of advice when I asked him, “What is the best advice you would give to underclassmen, and he said, “Get your sleep schedule and diet in check because that’s what fuels you to work hard.” This advice coming from a senior should be essential for everyone to reflect on and see if they too are doing this or should give it a shot because it could be very helpful. Throughout Jaswant’s four years of high school learning and running cross country, I wanted to see how he feels he has grown as a person throughout his school years, and he told me, “I feel like my work ethic has been a lot better from seeing the impact it has had on my grades.” After high school Jaswant has committed to Purdue University and is going to study engineering. After college looking far into the future he plans to use his engineering skills and leadership skills to hopefully make an impact on the community and solve global issues.
While talking to Jaswant and reflecting on his time here at Mayfield and all the things he has gained throughout his time here, I wanted to get a look at how others are looking at his time at Mayfield and what they see from him. After speaking with Riley Street (junior) and Ben Street (freshman), a pair of brothers who both go to Mayfield and run cross country with Jaswant. First, I asked Ben, How do you feel about this senior graduating and his accomplishments? ” Ben stated, “I am very happy for him and excited to see what he does in the future and how he grows into a person.” To follow that up, I asked Riley, What advice would you give to this senior? ” And he told me, “Keep trying to put yourself in situations you can succeed in and can grow in like you did for cross country here.” Riley said that Jaswant has developed more into a leader as he has become an upperclassman. And for the finale, I asked both Riley and Ben, how will Jaswant impact the future? And both of them agreed that he will show his great leadership skills and positively impact others around him and always lend a helping hand.”
In summary, Jaswant has made a lasting impact on Mayfield throughout his 13 years attending here since kindergarten and made many impacts on his teammates on cross country and friends at Mayfield. Best of luck to you Jaswant in your future!
