As of the 2025–26 school year, Mr. Mike Geraghty has stepped into the role of associate principal at Mayfield High School and is looking for ways to strengthen and improve the school community.
Over several weeks in the spring of 2025, he participated in multiple rounds of interviews. Mr. Geraghty said, “I was asked several questions by the 20 to 25 people that were up there. And then my third interview was, it was only two days later, and I met with Superintendent Dr. Barnes, and we talked more about the job for about an hour or so. And then soon after, I was offered the job.”
Head principal of Mayfield High School, Mr. Brian Linn, sat in on all of Mr. Geraghty’s interviews, where he got to know him better. Mr. Linn said, “After the interview process, I thought that he was definitely the right person for the job at Mayfield High School, just because of his thoroughness, because of his preparation, and because of his personality.”
While applying for the position, Mr. Geraghty recognized the many opportunities Mayfield offers its students. He explained that during interviews in the spring, he was seeking a larger district with more options and pathways for students, and Mayfield ultimately felt like the best fit. Mr. Geraghty said, “Mayfield has a stellar reputation, whether you realize it or not. With options like Learn and Earn, Excel Tech, and other pathways, it really stood out. I had three other offers for principal positions at different schools, but I chose Mayfield because I saw how rich the opportunities were.”
Mr. Geraghty aims to support Mayfield’s continued growth and improvement as a school district. Mr. Geraghty said, “My goals for Mayfield High School are to continue to improve upon the great instruction that the teachers offer, and to continue to offer and improve upon all these opportunities for students. Mayfield has more opportunities for students, more pathways to graduation than I’ve ever heard of. Building goals, actually, are to improve opportunities for kids with career tech pathways, such as a learning earn, or through Excel TECC, and also to improve upon our tested subject areas.”
Since moving to Mayfield, Mr. Geraghty has faced challenges, including becoming familiar with the staff in a new school district. Mr. Geraghty said, “The most difficult part is probably, that I had to learn all the new staff members. I’ve enjoyed that, but, I mean, that was a little frustrating… Just being a new person, being the new guy, that’s been the most difficult part.”
Mr. Geraghty brings a range of strengths to his role, including qualities shaped by his time in the military and nearly 20 years of experience in education. Mr. Linn said, “Number one, his thoroughness, the way that he looks at data, numbers, kids, and staff is very, very impactful. I also think his organization, he understands how to structure things and he was in the military, so, I mean, he’s very timely.”
Mr. Geraghty looks forward to making a positive impact and continuing to support the Mayfield community.
