Brown Derby offers American cuisine
January 27, 2016
Brown Derby is a restaurant that offers traditional American Steakhouse cuisine. It is a small local chain, with only a few locations around Cleveland.
The menu at Brown Derby includes traditional Steakhouse items, such as steak, chicken, salads, appetizers, and seafood. While some items such as salads start around $7, other menu items like steak and lobster can get expensive, costing around $35 or more. However, each meal includes salad and rolls, which are served while you wait for your food.
When I went to Brown Derby, I started with the appetizer sampler, which cost $13.99. It included items such as onion rings, chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks, and fries. This appetizer is great for parties of 3-4 people, and maybe even more.
All of the food in the sampler tasted fresh, and the onion rings, mozzarella sticks, and chicken had a great crispy coating on the outside. Furthermore, the salad was crisp and fresh and the homemade rolls were also fantastic, they were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
For my entree, I went with the Monterey Chicken, which cost $13.99. This dish included a chicken breast, topped with BBQ sauce, cheese, and tomatoes. This entree also included one side. I decided to go with the loaded baked potato.
The chicken was moist and juicy on the inside and the toppings really added even more flavor to it. The loaded potato came with sour cream, cheese, and bacon. The portion was very good, the potato weighed close to half a pound and I even had some left to take home.
The baked potato had a nice seasoned skin, and was fluffy on the inside. The crispy bacon really added a nice crunchy texture to it.
Although they offer desert, I was too full to try some. However, desert at Brown Derby includes the usual items such as brownies and cake.
The food and service at Brown Derby was excellent. The wait times to be seated and served depend on when you go; just like most restaurants they are busier during certain times. Although everything was good, my only complaint is the decor.
The decor inside is meant to look like an old style Texas themed restaurant. The decorations accomplish this, but they seem to be getting outdated. Furthermore, I think the carpet also needs to be replaced, but these facts can be overlooked in my opinion.
Next time you are looking for a good place to have a nice dinner, you may want to consider Brown Derby. The restaurant overall is clean and well maintained. The food and service are also great, and the portions are big.
