Gavin Mitten, Guest Writer

In an exclusive interview, The Paw Print’s Gavin Mitten sat down with honors biology teacher Kristy Palmeri to learn more about her plans for summer break.

Gavin: How excited are you about getting married and how much have you prepared to get married?
Palmeri: I am very excited. It’s taken a lot of preparation, to pick out a dress, where we’re going to get married, food, and all the other details that go along with wedding planning, so it has taken a good six months to plan.

Gavin: That’s a lot of months. How long have you been engaged?
Palmeri: Since the end of July, so nine months.

Gavin: When and where are you getting married?
Palmeri: We are getting married on June 29th at Patterson’s Fruit Farm.

Gavin: I have been there twice!
Palmeri: There is an area outside where we are going to get married, and it overlooks the entire park. Right after we get married, the reception is right inside of their party center.

Gavin: Why are you getting married at Patterson’s Fruit Farm?
Palmeri: We went there on a date in the fall to pick pumpkins and apples, and I just think it’s a beautiful place.

Gavin: Where are you going on your honeymoon?
Palmeri: We’re going to Italy and Greece. In Italy, we’re going to go to the Italian Riviera, Florence, Venice, Sicily, and Rome. We’re also going to Greece and a few of the Greek Islands.

Gavin: What do you think is going to be your favorite part of your honeymoon?
Palmeri: It’s so hard to answer because I’m looking forward to all of it. I think I’m really looking forward to introducing my fiancé to my family in Italy because for some of the time in Italy, we’re going to be staying with my family in Sicily and they’re going to have a party for us.

Gavin: Why are you going to all of these places on your honeymoon?
Palmeri: My family being there is one thing, but I just love the Italian culture and the food. Also, my fiancé has never been there, so I wanted to share it with him, and it’s some place where he’s always wanted to go. (We chose) Greece because it’s beautiful and we both love the beach, so we’re going to go to the beach a lot. It’s going to be really warm, in the 80s and 90s.

Gavin: It’s better than being really cold like it is here.
Palmeri: I agree, I’ll take hot over cold any day.

Gavin: What is one negative to your trip, it could be the flight?
Palmeri: They’re (the flights) long. That’s definitely the one negative for sure because they are not direct flights, and there are layovers. [The trip] is still worth it.

Gavin: That’s a lot of traveling. Are you allowed to leave the airport?
Palmeri: By the time you leave, you’re only going to leave for like an hour, and then you’re going to have to come back, so it’s not worth it because you don’t want to miss your flight.

Gavin: Are there people who speak English who help you out there (Italy)?
Palmeri: Yes. In Italy, there are tons of people who speak English.

Gavin: That’s good.
Palmeri: I couldn’t get by (in Italy) because my Italian is not very good. I can get by with the basic stuff (in Italian), but I don’t know it (Italian) well enough (to get by in Italy).

Gavin: Is there anything else that you’re doing over the summer?
Palmeri: My cheerleaders and I have cheerleading camp at the end of July, so as soon as I get back from my honeymoon I have one day and then I have to go to cheerleading camp. It’s going to be rough. Also, in June I’m teaching summer school a couple days a week.

Gavin: What are you most looking forward to over summer break?
Palmeri: My fiance and I are both looking forward to the wedding and the honeymoon. I am really looking forward to spending time with him doing our favorite things, like traveling.
