Mister Wilde: Advice for a freshman?

Mister Wilde, Staff Writer

Dear Mr.Wilde,
I am scared… new school, new people, new classes. Any advice for a freshman?

I do not understand why those younger than me look up to me so much. But advice you want? Advice I’ll give.

When you walked into high school you probably were amazed by the big school and your brain was swirling with thoughts of all the new possibilities that were to come in the next years you have here. Or, for some of you senior year can’t come fast enough to get you out of this windowless prison that you have been forced into since a young age.

Whether you were eager or acting like a bum, one thing I have to say is get involved. Yes it’s very cliché and all but I will say what I want. You asked for the advice, didn’t you?

For those of you who acted like a bum on the first day of school, or in your mind prison, what I have to say to you is this, breathe. This school is going to be what you put into it. If you sleep in class and fail all your classes you will hate it more than breathing carbon monoxide.

But, if you get involved in something that interests you and try to at least not hate your least favorite class, you will actually enjoy your stay here. Maybe by the time you graduate you’ll actually enjoy your time in high school, which is always the goal.

Cellmates, you ask? Ah, I like to call them friends. As time progresses and your friends move onto parole, or what I like to call new schools or eventually college, you will find who you fit in with.

Whether it be the kids who can never seem to get out of the hole or the ones who don’t even know what the inside of a prison cell looks like. You will be okay and you will definitely find not only some friends but hopefully, you will find yourself.

Also, that senior boy who wants to be “friends” with you, isn’t really into your personality. Or you at all, he’s into things and sayings that you don’t even know what they mean. This brings me to the next point: be wise.

You want to leave this this place with good memories, and you don’t want to regret anything. You want to regret the things you didn’t do. Go to school events, go to dances, and please do get involved. You don’t want to sit with your wrinkly self and your seventy cats wondering what you ever were supposed to do with your life. Unless you want to be a wrinkly cat person, then you go you!
