Can’t think of a comment to post on an online article? Many people have been posting a pancake recipe in comment sections when they’re at a loss for words. (Mark DuFrene/Contra Costa Times/MCT)

When it comes to breakfast, most would say it is the most important meal of the day. This is especially true for students in high school. At Mayfield, students enjoy breakfast in a variety of ways, but some do not eat it at all.

For the most part, students at Mayfield High School either have breakfast at home, on the go in the car, or buy it at school. However, some students simply do not have time to eat any breakfast at all while others don’t have time only on school days.

Peter Waring is a senior at Mayfield High School who does not eat breakfast. He said, “I don’t eat breakfast in the morning. I have not eaten breakfast in about 7 years.”

However, some high school students do not skip breakfast completely, but are usually in a hurry so they may not eat a big breakfast or may not enjoy a big breakfast until the weekend.

Justin Perkins is also a student but does not completely skip breakfast. He said,”…I usually just eat a bowl of cereal, with a glass of orange juice. I never eat a big breakfast on school days.”

Brandon Tsirlin also said that he would like to eat breakfast, but does not have the time. He said, “I don’t really eat breakfast on school days as I don’t have enough time and love to sleep. However, I love eating big breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday either by myself or with friends or family.”

This is understandable, because of all the work they must do both inside and outside of school, high schoolers often don’t have enough time to sleep as long as they should. This may impact the time that they have in the mornings for breakfast. But, some students manage as best as they can to at least eat something for breakfast, which is better than not eating anything.

Max Zarin, is a student who believes in eating a breakfast. He said, “Depending on how busy I am, I try to eat at home, if I am busy I take it to go. I usually eat cereal, fruit, and a glass of water.

Furthermore, for those that may not have time to eat breakfast at home, the school offers breakfast every morning from 7:00 a.m until about 7:30 a.m. This gives students plenty of time to eat a breakfast before the school day starts.

Vineet Reddy is a senior who also believes that breakfast is important and eats it at school. He said, I never have time to eat a good breakfast at home before school, so I just buy one in the cafeteria before school starts. This helps me start my day and gives me the fuel to function though my classes before lunch.

Having breakfast at school is a good alternative to having breakfast at home. Since most students arrive before homeroom anyway, they can have breakfast at school.

Kitty Wen also believes that it is more convenient to eat breakfast at school. She said,I prefer to buy breakfast at school because I dont have time to make it, I am too lazy.

Moreover, there are those who believe that there is no excuse not to have breakfast everyday. Chris Pawlusik is a high school student that thinks strongly of the subject. He said, I eat breakfast at home. No matter what. If you dont eat breakfast, you are digging your own grave.

Overall, it is necessary to eat some type of breakfast, wether at home, on the go or at school.Doing so helps students focus until lunchtime and do their best during the school day.

Another strong believer in eating a good breakfast is senior Daniel Bosoy. He said, I eat breakfast at home everyday, and it is an important part of the day, [I eat] eggs and bacon, the American way!
