Kesha Sebert, most of us know her as Ke$ha, is a singer and songwriter. We all her for her songs, “Tik Tok,” “We R Who We R,” and “Die Young.” Recently we have seen her in the news and on social media because of her lawsuit against Dr. Luke.

Who is Dr. Luke?
Lukasz Sebastian Gottwald is a songwriter and producer who has an arrangement with Sony Music that involves him running Kemosabe Records. He has his writing and production credits on Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone,” Pink’s “U + Ur Hand,” Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl,” and many others.

Why is there a lawsuit?
The lawsuit was filed in California in October 2014, and the suit is to end Kesha’s contracts with Dr. Luke and Sony Music, allowing her to be a free agent. The suit claims that over the ten years leading up to the filing of this suit, Dr. Luke has sexually, physically, and verbally abused Kesha.

What has the court decided?
New York Supreme Court Justice, Shirley Kornreich denied an injunction that would have let Kesha out of her contract and free from Dr. Luke. However, Kesha does not have to produce music with Dr. Luke but she still has to produce music through Sony Music, who is not promoting her properly because of the allegations.

What are people saying and doing?
Many celebrities have spoken out about the situation.  Those celebrities include Lady Gaga, Kelly Clarkson, Ariana Grande, and others who have voiced their opinion. Musician and producer Jack Antonoff has said that he would produce Kesha’s music for free. Taylor Swift has even shared her opinion on this issue by donating $250,000 to Kesha to help cover legal fees and anything else she needs.
