The band directors and field commanders are finding themselves very happy with the results of last home game’s Halloween halftime show.

Brad Trieber, the band director, said that off the top of his head, he was very proud of everything the band did during the performance. He said, “You can always pick things apart, but at this point, I’m gonna say that I’m very happy with what the band did.”

Paige Ochocki, the new assistant band director, thought the Halloween halftime show went really well. She said, “The band really brought the sound. I thought ‘Toxic’ was one of the best times it’s ever sounded and blew me away – it was awesome. I thought ‘Thriller’ was super fun, and I thought I’m still standing was a good tune to close with.”

Brad Trieber said that the most surprising thing is always the costumes, and how they’re always different. “I think the costumes were the most surprising thing to see, how everybody dressed up.”

Treiber said he selected the music for the show with the help of the seniors. He said, “It’s traditional, that’s been played for more than 20 years. ‘Toxic’ was a selection from this year’s seniors, and ‘I’m Still Standing’ is a carryover ending tune.”

Ochocki said that the tradition serves as an incentive for students to have something fun to look forward to at the end of the season and for them to continue working hard to accomplish. She said, “I think the costumes and the overall experience with good motivation to play a difficult chart like ‘Thriller.’ It’s something that the kids love to do.”

Connor Levak, a junior field commander, worked with a variety of students to prepare them for the show, and Graham Wilde was especially impressive. Levak said, “[Wilde] plays the trumpet and is a section leader in his junior year. His intuition is amazing and he often decides to play the octave up at certain points in each song, and he really adds something to the sound of the performance.”

The Halloween halftime show took place at Wildcat Stadium on Friday, Oct. 14. Their last regular season performance occurred last night at Kenston High School.
