Fashion Advice: Say hello to the cold

Anna Sintsirmas, Staff Writer

So, we have reached the time… the time wear (silly puns) the weather is hitting us straight in the face with giant ice cubes on zero chill.

Honestly though, the act on knocking down sweater weather isn’t what we should be doing. It’s wonderful that Mother Nature forces us to be cozy- I mean how does crackling fire and a hot beverage from a coffee house sound to you right now? The thing is when tapping into clothing we have all these leftovers from summer and fall.

Instead of going all out and finding some new pieces, let’s focus on how to reduce, reuse, and recycle the beauties in our closet. With the right accessories, the right layering, and the right touch, you can bring out these year after year without ever getting tired of ’em.

Hello Bird’s it’s too Early For Your Tunes

Hey so you must be aware of the drill by now. If not let’s go over a few things: rNew Picture (50)oll out of bed at whatever time strikes your fancy but makes you to homeroom. Pick your coziest sweater and your favorite jeans, and head on over to go get an enriched education.

This may be routine for the week, but the staples for some reason do not feel ordinary.

So remember that oversized knit? Whether it is structured around the sleeve and neckline or even just a free formed collar and has zero body- when paired with straight wide-legged jeans or as I did so here (some boyfriend jeans), it just seals a lazy-day and what better way to top it off than with slip-on sneakers or lace ups?

The hat was a fun thing to add on my part, but is recommended out of school!

Put this on and this and this and this

DeNew Picture (51)spite Ohio’s rapid bipolar weather pattern, our bodies still respond with such shock even if we have tasted the snow before or felt the cold.

A way to keep warm and try to avoid the physical body responds to the chilly days is to LAYER. Now, the weather-minded way of layering is to wear your T-shirt under your sweater or button up. A way this can be amped up in a street-style way is to stretch the life of your summery blouses by layering it under a knit cami or vest.

This trick is particularly good on those uncharacteristically warm days when you can’t pull out your heavier jackets, but still want that warm-and-fuzzy feel of the season.

Suede or varnished-look trousers with a baggy fit lend a retro sensibility to the ensemble but here I went for some dark corduroy trousers with a tighter fit and heeled booties.

Nothing Boring about the Classic Off-Duty Combo
Mixing those baggy silhouettes may seem sort of like an advanced style play, but bring out your boyfriend denim and a loose-fit cardigan to offer the ultimate throw-and-go pairing. The draping of the cable-knit sweater and tying in with the jeans work here because they fall in the same colorway.

This allows you to max out on comfy vibes while keeping it streamlined and neat. Grab your favorite phrased/bandTee and you got yourself a confident day ahead of you!

Don’t Save the Crafty Pairings for Art Class
So, when you purchase an item of clothing anywhere you should be thinking not just one way to wear it but more than once. Every item in your closet has multiple applications — whether they are immediately obvious or not.

Let’s play around with a view items. I have repurposed mid length floral lace dress anNew Picture (53)d paired it with yet another fall staple — the colour blocking sweater.

If you’d rather not DIY: If you do not have these items at home try wearing an extra-long plaid shirt or shirtdress underneath a baggy sweatshirt for more traditional layering

I Promise You, this is the Overall Solution
The obligatory pun was beyond necessary, my apologies — but overalls have beNew Picture (54)en swimming around the body of trends for quite sometime now and all associated silhouettes (like the overall dress or the style itself) truly are year-round warriors.

Being such versatile heroes, they make a perfect match for our sweater collection which is crazy to think since our legs are exposed. I took a velvet pair of overalls I purchased from Brandy Melville and layered a colorful pattern of oriental flowers underneath. This way I got that pop of flavor.

TIGHTS WOULD BE ADVISED but on those lukewarm days I just decided to bunch up some socks with a pair of booties.

But a Month Ago it was Maxi this, and Maxi that!

When in doubt, wear maxi(ing) it all out is still there for grabs.

You don’t have to worry about pants and it is a great way to hide your thermal tights (available $6.45). If you have a dressNew Picture (55) that’s maxi or a skirt just throw on a sweater or a long sleeve shirt and you go yourself a comfy outfit once you drape a scarf over.

Shoe wise it is advised to wear a small bootie heel. Personally, the way I took the approach on this was taking one of my maxi skirts from Brandy Melville and tying up the corner of a t-shirt that I got from Forever 21 for just $7.00.

To finish the look, I took one of my blanket scarfs and snuggled on up.
