Sarah Carlile is a senior staff member on The Paw Print.

Her first experience with News Writing was the first semester of her senior year, taking the course just to have a fun English elective in her day for her last year of high school. While she initially struggled to adjust from her creative writing style to news writing style, she grew to love the change in her method of storytelling.

As for other writing classes she’s taken, she took CCP classes at Lakeland Community College last year for English Composition 1 and 2 to receive college credit. For her sophomore and junior year, she took creative writing where she fell in love with the craft and was awarded multiple publication opportunities. Last year, she was the head micro-fiction editor for the high school’s literary magazine, Voices Magazine. She hopes to double major in adolescent and young adult education (with a concentration in English language arts) and creative writing as she enters college next year.

In addition to her time at MHS, Sarah attends Chagrin Falls High School, as part of her Excel TECC program, the Academy for the Performing Arts. As for other extracurricular activities, she is a three-year veteran MHS Auxiliary (Flag Corps./Majorettes) member for the PRIDE of Mayfield marching band, in addition to many years of other sports, including cross country, softball, swimming, floor hockey, and more.

Her hobbies include free writing poetry and other genres, as well as relaxing with a soft blanket and a good book. She also loves to engage in long discussions with those who are closest to her.

Her goal in life is to show others how creative arts such as writing can become an outlet for troubled youth— one story at a time.
