World Affairs Club prepares for conference

The ardent students of the World Affairs Club are vigorously planning for the Cleveland Council on World Affairs Conference in early November.

The members are already making preparations for the intense debates of the model United Nations. One person who has directly witnessed their hard work is social studies teacher Michael Hughes. Hughes is the adviser of the club along with Edward Beck, another social studies teacher.

Regarding the CCWA conference, Hughes said, “The students this year are amazing. They’re working really hard and meeting every Friday afternoon from 3:00 to 4:30 and other times as well.  It’s like a Science Olympiad for the humanities.”

All the hard work will pay off on Nov. 4 and 5, when the conference takes place at the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association on East 9th Street in Cleveland. This is two days during the school week—Wednesday and Thursday—from 8:00 AM to 1:45 PM.

When it comes to these conferences, a lot of effort is required from each student, as everyone has responsibilities. Hughes commented on this required dedication.
