The 2016-2017 school year marks a welcome change to Mayfield’s most popular community service club.

Formerly known to Mayfield students as Key Club, the newly named Interact Club is still very much the same club with the same set of ideals—to encourage students to take action in their community by doing volunteer work.

Interact Club Vice President Nedal Eid said, “In the past years, Key Club was a part of Kiwanis International”–a nonprofit organization dedicated to coeducational community service. Interact Club is now hosted under the umbrella of Rotary International, a similar non-profit organization with goals congruent to that of Kiwanis International.

During previous school years, all Key Club members were required to pay a $15 entry fee into the club that went directly to Kiwanis International. To join the Interact Club it is now only $10. In addition, instead of the money going to Rotary International, the money will go directly to the club to pay for things like “food for hospice, the activities for Governors Village, and food for meetings. The money all goes back to the students” according to Eid.

The members and officers of Interact Club seem to be very fond of their new host organization. Eid describes Rotary as “more interactive” and “a definite positive change” because of some new features to the club. One such example is the introduction of a monthly Interact Club newsletter written by member Carli Stewart. Rotary has also supplied Interact Club with a new banner and generously gave club officers a luncheon at the Hilton.

Students have until the end of September to join and pay their fees. Interact meets every Thursday morning and hopes for a great new year.
